AROUND 40% OF PAKISTAN’S POPULATION IS FOOD INSECURE

Food is essential for people, not only for survival but also for overall health and well-being. Access to nutritious and safe food is crucial for individuals, communities, and societies to thrive. Unfortunately, for many poor people in our country, having two meals a day can be extremely challenging due to economic hardships, lack of employment, inflation, and other such socio-economic factors contributing to food insecurity in Pakistan.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), around 40% of Pakistanis are food insecure, meaning they do not have regular access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs. Recognizing the importance of improving food access for vulnerable populations, KGNWT has implemented Mobile Kitchens (Dastarkhuwaan) at 5 different locations across the country.

Our Mobile Kitchen serve fresh and nutritious meals to hungry individuals including poor daily wage workers, those on low incomes, and individuals in need. To date over 8.52 million meals have been served from our kitchens, with dignity and respect.

The Quran mentions that spending in charity, including providing food, leads to manifold increase and blessings from Allah (Quran2:261).

KGNWT’s Mobile Kitchens are currently operational at the following locations:

  • Civil Hospital Karachi (functional since Sept 2012)
  • Pakpatan, Punjab (functional since Dec 2012)
  • KGNWT Office (Karachi, serving since Apr 2014)
  • Peer Mahal, Punjab (serving since Nov 2014)
  • ARY Office, Karachi (functional since May 2014)
