KAFFARAH IS AN EXPIATION FOR INTENTIONALLY BREAKING A FAST
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is obligatory for all adult Muslims, with exception for those who cannot fast due to valid reasons such as major illness, old age, pregnancy, or travel. However, if an individual misses or deliberately breaks a fast without valid reason, they are required to pay a penalty known as Kaffarah.
To compensate for the intentionally broken fast, the person must either fast continuously for 60 days or, if unable to do so, feed 60 poor people.
ACTIONS THAT INVALIDATE A FAST
- Eating or drinking intentionally
- Deliberately inducing vomiting
- Sexual intercourse during the fast
- Smoking
- Ingesting Medication
HOW MUCH IS KAFFARAH FOR RAMADAN 2024?
For Ramadan 2024, the cost of an average meal is estimated to be Rs 340. Thus, Kaffarah amounts to RS20,400 (340x 60) for each missed or intentionally broken fast.
This compulsory payment of Kaffarah emphasizes the significance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
